Useful vocabulary for task 1 in IELTS Exam

It is very important to add appropriate vocabulary in your IELTS writing task 1, This is because according to band descriptor lexical resources are also an important aspect of them.

I divided this vocabulary base of the trend which we can see in task 1, as well as we share Linking Words for IELTS Writing Task 1

Upward trend

  • increase
  • incline
  • rise
  • grow
  • surge
  • climb up
  • go up
  • soar

Downward Trend

  • decrease
  • decline
  • fell
  • drop
  • go down
  • dip

Unchanged Trend

  • remain stable
  • steady
  • unchanged
  • constant
  • consistent
  • remain static
  • maintain the same level

Irregular Trend

  • fluctuate
  • erratic
  • oscillate
  • up and down

Trend Hit the Highest Point

  • reach a peak

Trend Hit The Lowest Point

  • reach the lowest point

Now we have a good vocabulary of the trend but we are not capable to describe it in a beautiful way. That is why we need to add some words which are known as Adverb and Adjective.

Vocabulary is spilled in the form of a degree.

Very Extensive change

  • dramatic(adjective), dramatically(adverb)
  • drastic(adjective), drastically(adverb)
  • enormous(adjective), enormously(adverb)
  • tremendous(adjective), tremendously(adverb)

  • substantial(adjective), substantially(adverb)

Average Change

  • noticeable(adjective), noticeably(adverb)
  • marked(adjective), markedly(adverb)
  • moderate(adjective), moderately(adverb)

Small Change

  • slight(adjective), slightly(adverb)
  • minimal(adjective), minimally(adverb)
  • small(adjective)

We share vocabulary form of the speed

Quick change

  • rapid(adjective), rapidly(adverb)
  • quick(adjective), quickly(adverb)
  • sharp(adjective), sharply(adverb)
  • swift(adjective), swiftly(adverb)

Slow Change

  • steady(adjective), steadily(adverb)
  • gradual(adjective), gradually(adverb)
  • slow(adjective), slowly(adverb)

Unexpected Change

  • sudden(adjective), suddenly(adverb)

Now we have enough vocabulary still we do not know how to represent our vocabulary.

I share two formats that are helpful to understand how we use all words in a formal way.

(verb + adjective) & (adverb + verb)

(increase significantly)  & (dramatic decline)

  1. The population in India increased significantly from 2000 to 2020.
